Kiawe Cake

A single seed planted in 1828 is responsible for the widespread kiawe found throughout Hawai‘i.

Kiawe can affect native plants, and its deep taproots impact groundwater levels.

Thousands of kiawe bean pods are produced each year, falling to the ground and creating a nuisance for many, but O‘ahu-based ‘Ai Pohaku takes the pods and produces kiawe bean flour, which is used in our dessert.
