Fried Menpachi

The menpachi (aka Soldierfish, or ʻū ʻū in Hawaiian) is a relatively small, nocturnal predatory schooling fish has a fine grain and a mild, delicate flavor.  

ʻŪʻū are nocturnal, feeding on shrimp and plankton during the night.  They were popular to the Japanese in Hawaiʻi as it was a substitute for carp.

Menpachi is served with a tomato-onion relish and baby watercress.
